Court Sentences Criminals to One Year in Prison and Deportation
Dubai authorities have sentenced three Pakistani men to one year in jail followed by deportation after they were found guilty of posing as Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers and robbing a gold trading company of Dh322,000 in cash.
How the Heist Unfolded
According to court records, the convicted men targeted a gold trading business operating from an apartment in a commercial building in Naif, Dubai. On March 7, 2024, they executed a pre-planned robbery, assaulting two Indian nationals and stealing valuable items.
The criminals forced their way into the office as one of the victims unlocked the door. They physically assaulted him before confiscating his Samsung S32 Ultra phone (valued at Dh3,100) and falsely claiming to be CID officers. Moments later, when a second employee entered, they seized his iPhone 14 Pro and threatened him to prevent resistance.
After ransacking the office, the men stole Dh322,000 in cash from a drawer and removed the surveillance camera’s recording device before fleeing.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests
Following the robbery, the victims reported the crime to Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which launched an immediate probe. Investigators successfully tracked down and arrested four suspects.
During questioning, three of the suspects admitted to the crime, revealing how they split the stolen money. Upon their arrest, police recovered Dh34,305 from the men. The first suspect admitted to receiving Dh10,000, while the second and third received Dh20,000 each, some of which was recovered.
Verdict: Jail, Fine, and Deportation
Despite denying the charges in court, the Dubai Criminal Court found three of the men guilty of theft, unlawful entry, and impersonating police officers. They were sentenced to one year in prison, followed by deportation. Additionally, they were collectively fined Dh290,795 to compensate for the stolen funds. Failure to pay the fine will result in additional jail time—one extra day per Dh100 owed.
A fourth defendant, who was accused of acting as a lookout, was acquitted due to a lack of admissible evidence.
Dubai’s Strict Laws Against Impersonation and Theft
Dubai enforces strict penalties for criminal impersonation and theft, ensuring public safety and upholding the emirate’s reputation as a secure business hub. Law enforcement authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately.
