Phishing Scams in UAE, How to stay safe from online fraud

Phishing scams are increasing across the UAE, targeting residents through emails, SMS, and social platforms. These scams are designed to trick users into sharing personal information, clicking harmful links, or giving access to their accounts. Staying aware of how these tactics work can help you avoid becoming a victim.

Spot the Red Flags

Most phishing attempts follow a similar pattern. You may receive a message that creates urgency, asking you to verify your account, reset a password, or claim a reward. While these messages may appear official, they often contain small mistakes such as unusual sender addresses, poor formatting, or incorrect links. If a message pressures you to act quickly, take a step back and review it carefully.

Keep Your Information Secure

Avoid sharing passwords, one-time codes, or personal details through links received in messages. In the UAE, official services do not request sensitive information through random emails or texts. Always access your accounts by visiting the official website or using the official app instead of clicking unknown links.

Report Suspicious Activity

If you come across a suspicious message, report it to the relevant platform or local authorities. Staying updated on common scam methods can help you recognize threats early. It is also recommended to enable two-factor authentication on your accounts for an added layer of security.

Online safety does not require advanced technical knowledge. Simple habits like verifying sources and avoiding unknown links can significantly reduce your risk. Staying alert is the key to protecting your personal and financial information in today’s digital environment.
