While overseas postings were once considered the fast track to career success, today’’s top executives are increasingly declining international relocations. Our conversations with organizations over the past six months reveal that approximately 80% of multinational corporations have experienced a significant uptick in the number of leaders who are reluctant to accept overseas assignments.
This shift is forcing firms to rethink their global talent strategies, potentially reshaping how business gets done across borders.
Join us for the exclusive media launch of the 2025 IMD World Talent Ranking for a discussion on the changing shape of global competitiveness, where we will reveal:
- Which global economies are winning (and losing) the battle for executive talent
- Expert insights into how global volatility is reshaping executives’ priorities
- The implications for multinational corporations struggling to staff critical international roles
The results of the 2025 IMD World Talent Ranking are embargoed until 00:01 CEST on 9 September.

EXPERT SPEAKERS
- Arturo Bris, Director of the World Competitiveness Center and Professor of Finance at IMD; leading authority on economic competitiveness
- Misiek Piskorski, Dean of Executive Education and Professor of Digital Strategy, Analytics, and Innovation and founder of the Strategic Talent Lab at IMD
Drawing on the results of the Talent Ranking – which compares 69 global economies’ talent pools and the sustainability of their talent competitiveness – Bris and Piskorski will answer questions from a macroeconomic standpoint about how global volatility is impacting executives’ priorities and how organizations can continue to attract global talent.
This conversation is prompted by IMD research showing that executives’ motivation to relocate is increasingly aligned with financial security, despite a post-COVID U-turn during which executives had quality of life top of mind.
The trend is thought to be fueled not only by geopolitical uncertainty but also the costof-living crisis, inflation, the global war for talent, and the psychological effects of prolonged uncertainty in the wake of the pandemic.
