The whole family will love discovering the wonders of water at Terra, Expo City Dubai over two adventure-packed weekends

Expo City Dubai is giving families another exciting reason to head back to the mini-city with the launch of the Guardians of Water Festival. The event will shine a spotlight on our planet’s most precious resource, water, through immersive experiences designed to spark curiosity and inspire action.

It will run over two adventure-packed weekends on August 30 and 31 and September 6 and 7. The experience takes place at Terra – a fitting location, as it’s the Sustainability Pavilion. Terra is designed to be net zero in energy and water, built with a wide canopy and trees that generate the energy to make it net zero.

Tickets for the event cost Dhs50, and children under the age of 12 can enter free of cost. You can further upgrade the pass to an Attraction Pass for Dhs160 to enjoy Terra’s interactive exhibits and visit the Alif and Vision Pavilion. Or, you can add on a 30-minute Taqa Island session for Dhs35. Tickets can be purchased here.

For little ones and adults alike, the programme includes a storytelling session featuring Kathy Urban and Beverly Jatwani. Together, they bring water conservation to life through colourful, storybook-style adventures. Kathy will lead the session at 11.30am and 3.30pm on August 30 and 31, and September 6 and 7, and Beverly will take over at 1.30pm on August 30. No matter which session you attend, be prepared for stories that spark curiosity, inspire wonder, and bring the magic of water to life.

The stories continue into hands-on workshops for all ages. A number of drop-in activities will be available throughout the two weekends, all revolving around water. You can learn how to build a traditional Falaj irrigation system, experiment with water filtration, play Freshwater Heroes Bingo, or just enjoy a creative colouring session.

Want more knowledge? Head to the Heritage Corner, where they will showcase how cutting-edge desalination transforms Arabian Gulf seawater into fresh drinking water and how camels thrive in arid, water-scarce landscapes.

Visitors can also enjoy guided indoor tours starting at the Falaj, a striking recreation of the UAE’s ingenious traditional irrigation system. It continues into the Laboratory of Future Values, an uplifting space showcasing cutting-edge solutions to today’s environmental challenges.

Marjan Faraidooni, Chief of Education and Culture at Expo City Dubai, stated, “As our days grow hotter, we are reminded that water is not just precious; it is life itself. With less than 1% of the world’s supply fresh and accessible, protecting it is one of the greatest responsibilities we share.”

She added, “The Guardians of Water Festival invites families to experience the wonder of water while inspiring each of us to cherish and protect every drop for generations to come.”
