As the 2025 WTA season concludes and the year-end rankings are revealed, one of the standout stories belongs to 18-year-old Mirra Andreeva, who has officially finished the season ranked World No9 – a milestone moment for one of the brightest young stars in women’s tennis. The Russian’s breakthrough campaign both marks a defining moment in her career as well as highlighting the pivotal role played by the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships (DDFTC) – the scene where her journey to the sport’s upper echelon ramped up last February. Victory in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships saw Andreeva move into…
Data shows that weak hands flood Binance, while BTC whales and institutions steadily buy without accelerating purchases. Bitcoin’s (BTC) latest plunge toward the $93,000 level appears to be driven largely by short-term market participants, according to new analysis from CryptoQuant. This essentially indicates a growing divergence between activity on Binance and behavior in institutional channels. Retail Selling vs Institutional Absorption Data shows Bitcoin exchange inflows on Binance have surged sharply in recent days, as the figure rose from 5,500 BTC to nearly 15,000 BTC on November 14. CryptoQuant stated that this spike points to intense selling pressure from short-term…
Book review: Australian author Pip Finkemeyer’s satire, One Story, skewers the narcissism and mythmaking of tech leaders
When I began reading Elaine Castillo’s Moderation, a new American novel about the psychological damage of online moderation, I had to pause. I’d read novels that confronted difficult material before, but this one blurred the line between bearing witness and re-enacting pain. The book follows Girlie, a content moderator for a social media giant whose work requires her to watch and delete the internet’s most violent footage. Castillo threads this labour through a broader story of tech exploitation, immigration and the way empathy becomes a marketable skill. I put it down, deeply uncomfortable, but also alert to the question: where…

VCs abandon old rules for a ‘funky time’ of investing in AI startups
If there’s one thing that VCs agree on when backing AI startups, it’s that AI requires a different investment approach than prior technological shifts. “It’s a funky time,” said Aileen Lee, founder and managing partner of Cowboy Ventures, onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025. The longtime VC noted that the rules of investing have significantly shifted now that some AI companies are leaping from “zero to $100 million in revenue in a single year.” However, Lee also noted that, based on her firm’s research, Series A investors aren’t just seeking rapid revenue growth. “It’s an algorithm with different variables and different…
