TAQA Energy Services, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), has partnered with Sdeira Group, part of AD Ports Group, to deliver one of the emirate’s largest building retrofit projects. The 14-month initiative at Aryam ICAD Residential City in Mussafah will upgrade energy and water systems to improve sustainability and reduce environmental impact.

The agreement, unveiled at the World Utilities Congress 2023 and signed during ADIPEC 2025, was formalised by Khalid Al Qubaisi, CEO of TAQA Energy Services, and Abdulaziz A. Bawazeer, CEO of Sdeira Group, in the presence of senior officials and industry leaders.

TAQA Energy Services will upgrade heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, introduce advanced energy monitoring and control technologies, and install water-saving solutions across eight building clusters, including residential compounds and a shopping mall.

Al Qubaisi said the partnership reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. “Our partnership with Sdeira Group marks a significant step in delivering future-ready, energy-efficient infrastructure in the emirate, aligning with the Abu Dhabi Energy & Water Efficiency Strategy 2030 and the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 initiative,” he said. “This partnership also supports sustainable growth while protecting vital natural resources.”

The project is expected to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by around 17,000 tonnes and generate AED12 million in annual savings, which will be reinvested into the efficiency programme.

Bawazeer said the initiative reflects Sdeira’s focus on sustainability and community wellbeing. “Sustainability is a core component of Sdeira Group’s business model. Our collaboration with TAQA Energy Services demonstrates our shared commitment to environmental stewardship in line with economic development,” he said.

“Aryam ICAD Residential City is one of our flagship staff accommodation communities, home to over 58,000 residents. These retrofits will enhance the overall living environment for our community, not only reducing utility consumption and costs but also enabling us to serve our communities better.”

The project is expected to cut electricity use by 36 gigawatt-hours and water consumption by more than 616,000 cubic metres annually, the equivalent of the carbon absorption of 250,000 tree seedlings grown over a decade.

Owned and operated by Eskan, Aryam ICAD Residential City provides housing for thousands of workers and plays a key role in Abu Dhabi’s urban infrastructure.
