In a powerful continuation of their shared vision for inclusion and innovation, the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) partnered with Huawei during this year’s Dubai Ride, uniting technology and sport to celebrate empowerment through movement. The collaboration saw Paralympic athletes from the Dubai Club for People of Determination join thousands of riders along Sheikh Zayed Road, testing the latest Wheelchair Mode on the newly launched HUAWEI Watch GT 6 Series.
Introduced for the first time at GITEX Global 2025, the Wheelchair Mode represents a breakthrough in inclusive wearable technology. Developed after a conversation between H.E. Majid Rashed, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee, and Huawei engineers, the feature allows wheelchair users to track push frequency, speed, distance, and effort with remarkable precision. Powered by Huawei’s advanced health ecosystem and TruSense sensors, it delivers data insights that redefine how movement and wellness are measured for users of determination.
H.E. Majid Rashed, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee, commented: “Seeing our athletes take part in Dubai Ride using the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 with Wheelchair Mode is truly inspiring and a proud moment for all of us. This partnership demonstrates how technology can transform lives and enable athletes of determination to participate fully and confidently. Huawei’s commitment to inclusion reflects the true spirit of sportsmanship and innovation.”
Through the APC-Huawei collaboration, the Dubai Ride became an opportunity to put innovation into motion. Equipped with the HUAWEI Watch GT 6, participating athletes demonstrated the capabilities of the Wheelchair Mode across the city’s iconic cycling route, showcasing how inclusive technology can inspire participation, self-awareness, and community connection.
Bruce Li, Country Manager UAE, Huawei CBG: “What began as a simple idea has evolved into a meaningful innovation that empowers athletes and everyday users alike. The Dubai Ride was the perfect platform to test how the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 can support wheelchair users and athletes of determination in tracking their performance, enhancing motivation, and showcasing how inclusive technology can truly make a difference in people’s lives.”
The initiative underscores Huawei’s commitment to innovation with purpose, reinforcing its vision that technology should empower everyone. Through continued partnerships with the APC and organizations supporting People of Determination, Huawei aims to make smart health experiences more inclusive, accurate, and human-centered ensuring that every person, regardless of ability, can benefit from the transformative power of technology.
