Some Dubai Snapchatters Will Save All Their Memories Before They Disappear

The update nobody asked for, SAD.

Snapchat is having a lil change… and not in the fun filter way. The app just announced it’s putting a cap on Memories storage, meaning if you’ve been hoarding every photo and video since 2016… you might need to start paying to keep them. Yep, your digital time capsule now comes with a price tag.

Want instant updates? Follow Lovin on WhatsApp, and never miss a beat!

What’s changing?

Until now, Snapchat Memories were unlimited and free (a blessing for those of us who couldn’t delete a single blurry selfie). But with over a trillion pieces of media sitting on their servers, Snap says it can’t keep footing the bill.

So here’s the deal:

  • Everyone gets 5GB free.
  • Go over that? You’ll have to subscribe.
  • Storage plans start at a few dollars and go up to $15.99/month (or $191.88 a year) for the mega hoarders who need 5TB.

To soften the blow, Snapchat’s giving you 12 months of temporary storage to either download your stuff or buy more space.

Dubai snapchatters aren’t impressed…

Lovin Dubai asked on WhatsApp and the majority said… they don’t even use Snapchat anymore. Brutal.

But for those who do? Many said they’re planning to download all their memories before Snap locks them up. Basically, it’s giving “better safe than sorry” vibes.

Why it hurts

For a lot of users, Memories isn’t just random snaps of breakfast. It’s travel photos, old nights out, and awkward-but-adorable throwbacks. Now, that “beloved feature” is starting to feel like Netflix with the password crackdown — annoying, but kinda inevitable.

@vitaliacreates Snapchat, how you do you want me to squeeze 8 years worth of memories into 5GB!!! #snapchat #memories #snapchatmemories #snapchatupdate ♬ female rage – bel6va

What now?

If you’re under 5GB, you’re safe (for now). If you’re over? You’ve got choices:

  • Download everything and free up space
  • Bite the bullet and pay for storage
  • Cry as you delete 2017 streak selfies
