Warning To Residents As People Notice A Rise In Begging

Dubai residents have started noticing more beggars approaching them on the streets. One Reddit user shared, “In the 3 weeks, I’ve been approached three times by people asking for money for food, or saying they lost their job and are desperate.”

This sparked a discussion among locals about whether others had similar experiences… and the consensus pointed to a familiar pattern.

Why this happens before and during Ramadan

Several residents explained that this surge is typical during Ramadan. “Gangs actually fly in beggars to target areas during this time, especially around Eid,” one comment read. Another added, “In Ramadan, all the beggars start to show up everywhere.”

Some even warn about tactics beggars use, like faking injuries. One resident said, “They’ll try the fake wound in their arms, showing a massive wound with fake pus and beg for money to go to the hospital. Best case is to tell them you’re calling the cops, they’ll flee immediately. Most of them are forced by gangs.”

Dubai police take action

Authorities are aware of the issue. During Ramadan 2025, Dubai Police arrested 222 beggars. Residents are reminded to always report beggars to the police instead of giving money directly, as many are part of organized networks.

What residents should do

  • Stay cautious and aware, especially in areas where begging is common.
  • Avoid giving cash directly; report to Dubai Police.
  • Don’t fall for fake injuries or emotional tactics.

With awareness and community action, residents can enjoy Ramadan safely while supporting legitimate charitable causes.
